Pricing digital images for sale

Postby bellaphotos on Fri Jan 11, 2008 4:28 pm

I am a photographer with an online website. I normally sell prints, but I have a request for digital images for some of my pictures. These are 8 megapixel images so they are high resolution. How do I go about setting a fair price for these images?

Hi Bellaphotos,

I'm not an expert on pricing, and the topic can be quite subjective I'd think. However, I'd imagine it depends on a few things:

1. Are you transferring ownership/rights? Exclusive or not exclusive rights?
2. Are your pictures a dime a dozen or are they pretty rare?
3. Are you in it for profit or is this a hobby?
4. How much labor is involved on your part?
5. Are you in the business to make a network of contacts or does it not matter much?

Those are the questions I'd probably ask myself if I were in your shoes. I hope that helps and good luck!!!!

Also, maybe do a search online under the topic of pricing digital images or something like that.

Thanks, That's a lot to think about, but they are all valid questions. I went to one website for pricing digital photos, but it was way more than I wanted.
